Messaging

Message candidates

Send a message to a candidate from the Inbox, their profile, or in bulk from the Responses page - delivered as a personalized email.

What it is

You message candidates through Binary and the message reaches them as an email; their replies come back into the same conversation (see How email replies work). You can message one candidate or many at once.

Where you can send from

  • The Inbox - open a conversation and type in the composer at the bottom.
  • A candidate's detail view - the Messages area on their profile.
  • The Responses page, in bulk - select candidates and choose Reply / Reply all (see Bulk actions on candidates).

Composing

  • Personalize with {first_name} - it's replaced with the candidate's first name before sending.
  • Quick replies - click the icon to insert a saved reply template (see Reply templates).
  • Attachments - the 📎 icon attaches a file (up to 10 MB).
  • Schedule an interview - the 📅 icon in the composer opens the Schedule Interview flow (see Schedule an interview).
  • Preview - the empty Messages tab reads "Send an email reply to the candidate. Preview"; when starting a conversation you'll see a "Sending to {email}" indicator and can Preview how the email will look before sending.

Requirements & limits

  • The candidate must have an email. Messaging is unavailable for candidates with no email on file - add an email to their record first.
  • In bulk sends, candidates without an email are skipped (you'll be told how many).
  • Each message goes out as an individual email (candidates don't see each other).
  • Anyone with access to the form can message its candidates.
