Protect a column (field-level access)

What it is

Protecting a column restricts a single field (question) so only specific people can see its answers on the Responses page. Use it for sensitive fields - salary expectations, personal details, private notes - that not every editor should see.

Steps

1. Open the form's Responses page.
2. Click the column header of the field you want to protect to open its menu. A question column's menu has Asc, Desc, Filter, and Protect field (there's no "hide column" option, and standard question columns aren't deleted from here). (The AI Review column's menu is different - it lists your AI criteria, each with its own protect / duplicate / delete icons; deleting a criterion there warns it "will be permanently deleted for all editors of this form.")
3. Click Protect field. The "Protect this field" dialog opens.
4. Turn on Enable protection ("Hide this field from other editors or interviewers").
5. A people list appears - "Only the selected people will see this field" - tick who should still see it. The note "Workspace admins will always see this field" applies, and the form owner is always ticked and can't be unticked.
6. Changes save as you go - you'll see "Field protected" (and "Field protection removed" when you turn the toggle off).

Who can always see a protected field

• The form owner (creator) - always included, and
• Workspace Admins - "will always see this field."

Everyone else only sees the field if they're explicitly ticked in the list.

Notes & limits

• Only the form owner and workspace Admins can manage protection (turn it on/off and edit the allow-list). Regular editors can't.
• Protection is per field/column - set it on each field you want to restrict.
• Some built-in columns (like the candidate name / select column) can't be protected.
